The creative process for every writer is different. It’s art just with words instead of paint or clay.   There are some habits or inspirational tricks that are commonly used amongst writers.  I personally like music as an inspiration, but experience is truly the best foundation for writing.  Going on outdoor adventures to experience what one hears, sees, smells, or can touch can make a story more believable.  If you are writing a story in a city, spend some time in a city.  Look at the sidewalks, buildings, people.  Listen for what you hear?  People, cars, machinery, music, motorcycles,…..are there any animal sounds?  The smell is also important.  Some of them may be good like a bakery or some less pleasant like an alleyway filled with trash.

Imagine yourself in those places.  If you don’t get any ideas, then go visit those places or at least find some books or videos to assist.  Research is also important and think about the purpose of what you are writing.  What kind of emotions are you trying to invoke in the reader?  Do you want them to be angry?  Do you want them to feel sympathy for a character?  The words you choose and how you write them will affect how your reader responds to these characters or the situations they are in.  I recommend having someone read through your work and give you feedback.  If this is not possible, read it aloud to yourself.  Do you like what you are hearing?  Does it make sense?

Good luck with your own writing projects.  And remember it does take dedication and effort to write good stories.  It will not magically appear overnight.  Elves rarely show up to have someone else to take credit for their artistry.  It may take time, so don’t give up and put some work into it.
